Amerie In Love And War Review – Amerie will release her fourth studio album “In Love & War” on November 3, 2009 in the US through her own label Feenix Rising and Def Jam Recordings. With a title like that one has to wonder if Amerie is talented enough to find the middle ground between Love and War on a 51 minute CD? The good news is that she does find some kind of intersection between the two but it was not done easily.Because if love is often mentioned on the record,it is when it goes wrong, there is no real celebration of the matter here.In Amerie’s world love is deception (The Flowers,Dear John), untrustworthy (More Than Love) or a battle (Why R U).
In conclusion ‘In Love & War’ is a decent offering musically speaking but fails to live up to its own artistic ambition.Amerie seems to have it all but for some unknown reason she does not appear at ease or free and you can hear that on this CD.Only that element of freedom can bring her the big success she is longing for.Hopefully this will happen on her next album. For now I will have to give ‘In Love & War’ 2.5/5.

    1. Matt G says:

I gotta disagree. I interpret the songs’ lyrical content to the different emotions felt in a relationship when you’re in love and how they can be similar to a war like scenario. Amerie stated in interviews she was avoiding songs that portrayed love as all great or all bad. She’s focusing on the smaller aspects of particular emotions in a a love situation. It’s very relatable for me. I feel she succeeded with an A+. I gotta say to anybody who feels any single off this cd would definitely find others they feel as well. So I encourage anybody who digs her singles to go buy the album on November 3, 2009 (This Tuesday!)

    2. Maya What says:

I oh so disagree too. The album is giving you realness that everything in not peachy in a relationship. It is two people trying to make it work but when you have two people from different back grounds and with different views and just being your individual self problems are going to arise and happen all the time. So the question you ask it what to do? Do you stay do you go or do you try to work it out? Amerie is giving choices and real situations emotions/feelings in a relationship and I think she aced it. MORE THAN LOVE with fabulous is the bomb, DIFFERENT PEOPLE is the jam, SWAGGER BACK is for us ladies who get our confidence back in a relationship, and HIGHER is asking you fellas out there who treat woman like chap does this make you feel like a man. I can go on and on over this album. I say anyone who likes Amerie this is the album to get and even if you don’t this maybe the album that will get you liking her music. Or if you’re in a relationship and kind of confused it will shed some light on your concerns.
      A+ from me too!

    3. Ben4UNYC says:

      This album is really hot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    4. Benji says:

Yeah I would need to disagree with Franc G. on this one here. The album is bananazzzzzzzzzzz.

I was really amazed on how dope it really is and that’s real talk people.

    5. JNez says:

as soon as i can take “the flowers” off repeat i’ll be able to move on and try to review amerie’s in love and war cd objectively. but for now…amerie has thrown down the gauntlet. all other pop/r&b starlets take notice.

    6. Xay says:

I love Amerie and do plan on on buying the album, but Ive only heard the snippets at Amazon, and the 6 songs that have leaked or been released as singles. Have yall heard the album in its entirety???

    7. andrew says:

yes, album is out :( ,I´m ok with illegal copies after official release ,but before no

    8. Jimmy says:

Let me tell ya’ll Amerie is the sh*t. I just dig this girl so much. Her album is so dope but I’m a little pissed off. Why is it that all her music has leaked I mean really. Who is responsible in keeping it safe until its official release date? I have never heard of her music leaking before until she signed with Def Jam. Is it there responsibility?

    9. Brooklyn says:

yea gotta give it to her the album is classic!

    10. Trench says:

I wish Why R U the remix was on it with Nas, Jadakis, Cain and Nas

    11. Trench says:

      and Rick Ross

    12. Roxanne says:

I hope More Than Love is the next single then a ballot like Red Eye but I’m fellin Diffrent People, Higher and Swag Back too.
      Get’em Amerie.

    13. Mrs. Sophisticate says:

Just Stop. Amerie’s album is blazing, fire, hot, scorching.. you get the point. Why R U is the best song of 2009 and Heard’em All is a banger sure to please all audiences. Amerie is original unlike many other copy cat “artists” We need to learn to appreciate Amerie in this talentless industry and recognize true art when it appears. Amerie you are class personified and perfection embodied.

    14. SlimGoods says:

Man this reviewer must be a publicist for Rhianna’s wack a$$, how dare you downplay this beautiful album by an even more beautiful individual. This cd knocks. I will forever support this woman. Buy it, download it…..whatever you gotta do. This a win win situation folks! Love You Amerie!

    15. LK says:

Personally, both artist are a huge favorite of mines. Rihanna and Amerie have great talent straight in left filled. They are original and not most artist are as a high lyrical level. Some artist repeat, others have a higher artistry perspective. Ri- and Amerie both have them. Women in the R-N-B industry are shrinking. The best so far: Mary J. Blige, Mariah, Amerie, Rihanna, Mariah, W.H., Tamia and Leona Lewis, Christina Milian, Christina Aguilera and Alicia Keys are my favorite. There are few girl groups.

Listen to RichGirls they are a new and upcoming girl group. They have voices. You can tell who have real voices and who don’t.

    16. LK says:

Amerie’s album is GREAT Hands Down!!!! I have her 3 other albums. She is a great artist.

    17. Kevin says:

If I can get passed THE FLOWERS i can comment on the album…but seriously my girl A has done it again…this album is S.I.C.K DEF A GO GETTA!!!!

    18. Branden says:

I love this cd perfect for different emotions felt in a relationship!

    19. Yammy says:

I thoought this was going to be good because of the first two songs…WRONG. I listened to the rest and it’s crap. Here is one of the maing reasons:almst all the songs she claimed to arrange are jacked as in already been composed. Compare this Korean American’s/Amerie’s song “Dangerous” to Boa’s “Lose Your Mind”(also a Korean). Copied song + scratchy voice = make my head & chest hurt. Don’t waste $.

    20. savi says:

Great album. its the only album of 2009 from a noticable urban female artist that is different besides rihanna. It surprised many of my friends as well.
