Beyonce A Race Traitor?

Beyonce A Race Traitor? – Many people seem to think that just like Micheal Jackson,Beyonce is a traitor to blacks especially to black women all over the world for accepting that her ads be lightened and forever dyeing her natural dark locks gold/blonde.Independent paper wrote an article called ‘Beyonce — a traitor’ to her people on the matter saying:
The virtual clean sweep enjoyed by Beyonce at the Grammys was proof of one thing — modern music is in bad shape.
Okay, a white, 30-something Irish bloke probably isn’t the exact target market for a black woman who purveys a blend of soulless, poptastic R&B and while, in fairness, some of her songs are infuriatingly catchy, let’s get real — we’re not exactly talking about Ella Fitzgerald here.
But she seems like a pleasant enough modern pop creation who is careful not to say anything that would alienate her fanbase.
So, you would think that after her success at the Grammys, she is an inspiration to black women. But you would be wrong. And quite possibly a racist as well.
Beyonce had blonde hair at the awards and this prompted black commentator Teshima Walker of National Public Radio to fume: “I know that blonde hair is associated with white women and beauty. I saw how men respond to girls and women with golden hair … But now I think maybe black stars should help African-American women release the hold that blonde hair has had on us.”
So y’know those Destiny’s Child and Beyonce albums you have at home? Run home and throw them all out. Otherwise, you’re simply supporting the actions of a race traitor — and you wouldn’t want that, would you?

Is Beyonce black enough for your taste? Should an Irish writer be judging the singer?

They made some realy good points about how she changes her look, and also the idea that she needs to be good role model for younger black girls. I think she needs to probably just keep her original hair color…But with this said i still love her music and her performaces. I truly care more about the music then how she looking, because when you really think about it, there are many artists whom you don’t really like but yet their music are pretty good. And so i can’t just judge them totally on the way they look and how their view by others because mainly the most important thing about artist are their music that defines who they are.
I honestly dont believe that beyonce is a race traitor. It’s just her style…the way she’s always worn her hair and the wa yshe always sang her songs. I honestly dont understand why someone would say something like that.
beyonce did say she wished she was born latina….she a mutt
Aww! I think it’s sad. I don’t think Beyonce is a traitor, she hasn’t change her skin color, shes married to a black rap artist lol and the tones of blonde Beyonce wears is mostly dark tones of blonde that blends with her skin tone it’s not like it’s bleach blonde. I’ve only seen light blonde colors thrown in here and there. I personally think people hate on her just because shes beyonce. I don’t see the same comments being made about other african american stars who have blonde hair like mary or keri who wear lighter shades of blonde then beyonce or they traitors, of course not just doing what they like to do. So i say live and let live.
Are you guys for real? I am a blonde European that colors her hair black, goes to a tanning salon, dates a black man and loves black music… Am I a race traitor as well?
Since when a performer’s hair color (she does look better blonde, in my opinion) is an indication being a bad role model for black girls?
Beyonce just had an interview of 60 Minutes and said how proud she was to be black and have a 6 time sold out concert in Dublin. She played Etta, she sang for Obama, she married black…
I mean, I don’t see anyone going around sayin’ Mary J Blige is a race traitor – and she’s blonde too! Why? because she has a rough hood image and tons of tattoos! That is what you think a good role model for black girls is? A woman that wears, does drugs and tons of ink?
Anyways, less hating and less superficial racial symbols will do us all good…
Hey I love Mary J Blige too!!!
Wow. So, apparently, Beyonce winning Grammy’s has nothing to do with her talent and everything to do with her looks. In addition, it’s not that she’s beautiful, but more so that she is styled “white”? This “white” styling also makes her a poor role model for young black women? SPARE ME! I do not agree with this at all. Beyonce’s styling is simply that; styling. Anyone with the ability to use a search engine can find RECENT images of Beyonce with jet black, brunette, red, or sandy blonde hair. Also, many women (including black women) with fair complexions dye their hair lighter so that their features do not compete with their hair. This doesn’t mean Beyonce is styling herself white; it means she’s styling herself. What would this journalist, and I use that term VERY loosely, have her do; pick an afro, shave her head, corn rows or braids with beads? Those are traditional African styles aren’t they? Who is this man to say what makes a black woman? On top of that, he calls her a racist based upon her appearance. He mentions nothing about her character or personality, but can tell readers to throw out their Desinty’s Child and Beyonce albums because his commentary on her hair is evidence enough that she is a racist purveyor of white agenda in the media? NO! As for the statement by Teshima Walker, she, as a black woman, is entitled to her opinion on the subject. However, I would say that MANY men find different hair colors attractive and beautiful, and many men do NOT find blonde attractive on ANY woman. This supposed blonde-enslavement is a cause for an uprising while black women all over are putting multi-colored weaves in? Hair has always been a medium for expression, and, like clothing, choosing a particular style and color brings a person confidence. If Beyonce shaved her head and wore a lime green wig for confidence, her music and performances would reflect that, and she would still win Grammy’s. Finally, let me address his passive attack on Beyonce’s music. Music is subjective, so to call her music soulless and make an ‘apples and oranges’ comparison to Ella Fitzgerald is absurd (by the way, I completely disagree. Watch ANY live performance of Beyonce singing a ballad and try to call it soulless).
Given the above, I will not say that the author of this article or Ms. Walker can’t have their opinions about Beyonce. It’s their God given right to speak and write their minds. However, to convince ME, they would need to provide much more evidence. I pose this question: In the 21st century, should any of us be subject to antiquated racial or other preconceived definitions of who we are, and would living up to such expectations make us any better role models for the next generation?
People of color are natural blonds and redheads. The Masai warriors have natural red hair and other African cultures have natural blond hair color.I was born with blond and red hair and when I had my first hair cut my hair grew in brown and then dark brown. Like some of the comments above state we need to stop with the idea of cultural attachments and Just do you… as long as you aren’t hurting anyone. Peace
The articles totally on point, and its not just beyonce. Why doe every black American R&b artist tries to be whit all the time? Its so lame. Stop getting nose jobs and fake hair and just do you!!
what the hell has hair color to do with being a “race traitor?”
I can not agree with those arguments and I honestly do not believe in Beyonce trying to get “white”.
If she wants to dye her hair blonde, then let it be! What the hell is wrong with that? Just because she is African American doesn’t mean that she isn’t allowed to dye her hair the color that she wants to. If you trying to say that “do you” doesn’t contain choosing the hair color she wants, then where is the point in that?
Does everyone wants to comment on her hair color? Then why the hell don’t they go to a white woman, telling her not to dye her hair black?! Just because she is African-American? I mean… please, she has the same rights as everyone else and saying that she is a race traitor because of that… it’s like they are tyring to forbid her something just by breaking her image with such nonsense and taking HER RIGHTS away. As if you can jugde her…
That’s the biggest nonsense i’ve ever heard and I don’t believe that she can be compared to micheal jackson, anyway I believe that those guys are just trying to find something which isn’t there. Beyonce has a good image, does good work and is one of the best singers in the world and SHE IS AFRICAN AMERICAN. She’ll always be, even if she dyes her hair blonde… that’s so stupid, jeez…
Having blonode hair is her preference, how can she be a race traitor beacuse of that.
There are many genres of music that could be considered to be black because of the dominace of black singers, so does that mean all the white people who try and break through are race traitors?
oops meant blonde
Some people still lives in the dungeon @ idiot who wrote this.
“Caves” are more realistic… I totally agree with you.
Come on ppl get a life…just coz beyonce more famous than whoever wrote this dum racist article…leave her alone…she definitely showed whos da best diva…who cares what she looks lyk..its her talent thats more important..and shes definitely got it all!!!!!
This is all a load of crap. So are you guys telling us that black ladys should stay brunette and white women should have blonde hair. People really need to wake up.
Megan Fox your a traitor
Paula Abdul your a traitor
Miley Cyrus your a traitor
Mary j Blige your a traitor
Halle Berry your a traitor
Lil Kim your a traitor
Guys you all just want attention.
Get a life and Grow up.
Beyonce’s hair color does hold powerful meaning just as any woman who dyes their hair blonde (incuding white women–regardless of if they had this hair color as a child (you outgrew it, let it go). Blondeness in itself does not have any inherent power, attractiveness, or wealth but has been given this through the media and white supremacist theories geared towards staging whiteness as inherently and biologically superior. It is powerful because so many people actually believe that is only a “fashion statement.” Boys and girls do your reading.
some of yall are sosodef!! She went from NO NO NO..(R&B)…to Halo(not R&B)…yeah yeah..she can sing different styles..whatevea..she purposly put out music 4 her “white” fans and music for her “black” thats why there are two disk for i am sasha farce!!!! She is a major sellout…she was singing Survior which sounded nothing like anything off of the writing on the wall cd… I was a fan..but she has fallen off big time…My main question is why didn’t she come out by herself from the git go?? why use 5 other ladies??? and by the way all of the song that was relesed off of Writings on the Wall were more “pop” freindly..they didn’t release any of the “urban” sounding songs because they were trying to “crossover” which is what they did…it was done on purpose..why else was she swingin her hair like a white girl at the grammies??????????????? HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM?
I dont think this is about hair, quite frankily many black women choose to colour their hair, theres nothing wrong with that, what i think is wrong though is potraying a false image and saying its the real deal. Lets face it, Beyonce wears wigs and weaves, they all do , and we all knew even before chris rock good hair. I dont see anything wrong with that what ive got a problem with is Beyonce doing a Loreal ad saying its her real hair or allowing these companies to lighten her skin as if saying that being black is not acceptable.
Loads of young girls look up to her, should they feel like their beautiful black skin is not worthy of front covers of magazines etc, should they bleach their skin to become more accepted. This is really an issue about identity, beyonce cant please everyone and she needs to stop trying to. She calls herself a Christian and yet she parades around naked on the stage singing about sex, she wants to be this strong alck woman represening our culture ad yet she allows her pics to be lightened.
I’ve got nothing against her, to each his own, her music is good, and she does have talent, but she needs t stop trying to please evrybody and remember she is a role model and what sort of image is she potraying
you do have a point and everyone is entitled to their opinion so i respect that.
I totally and completely agree.
She’s just being herself. Wanting to be the best, look the best to herself and others. She will come around to change when it’s time.
oh shut the heck up. Why she gotta be a race traitor just because she sings music she feels? Oh heck. What the heck is a black person supposed to be like? I hate how blacks always try to live up to their stereo-types! ANNOYING!! “This isn’t what a black person should wear, so im not going to wear it” “Thats not black enough” oh give it a damn rest with all this race traitor bull ish because its a new millenium. Is obama a traitor too? Since be his a black pres!? Exactly. Black people need to stop acting like every freaking thing is about race. And no I’m not white so don’t think I’m trying to be one-sided. What the hell is black music? What the hell is white music? If you don’t like her new music than listen to that other “Black Music” crap.
well i agree about her bleachin her skin, cuz her black fans can see it as disrespect to the black race. but, when u look at it from a different point of view, dont us white women get a tan now n then? dont we all dye our hair eventually?
*****if yall think women should be 100% natural, and have only ”what god gave them” I DARE ALL OF YALL ”MORAL AND NATURAL WOMEN”, TO STOP SHAVIN UR LEGS, DOIN UR EYEBROWS, USIN MAKE UP, DYIN UR HAIR, WEARIN HIGH HEELS, cause thats obviously NOT how ”GOD wanted yall to look”. Not fun, huh? Well then stop pointin ur fingers at other women, and let them make their choices about how they want to look.
its her hair.. not the skin. hahaha
yyyyeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh she’s the best female RNB of the century
do us a favour and write about something else!! come on how ridiculous is this article????!!! any excuse to have a race winge!!
OMG are you serious???!!!! maybe she just likes the look, just like Ciara and Mary J Blige, etc
why is everyone always tryna ‘analyse’ what these people do. people look up to Beyonce regardless of what coulour hair she got…
Beyonce Rocks!!!
y r u ol hating on the poor gal?plz let her just B
Beyonce deserves a praise…not jeer !!!
I really could care less. She’s not my role model neither is Rihanna,Tyra, Kim Kardarshian or any other beautiful ladies apart of media. I know that most of time they have no real control over their outer appearances so why would I look to them for guidance of who I want to be. They are not me. Besides when it comes to that ad thing, Beyonce’ is very light and sometimes pale without makeup. I don’t think there was no skin lightening. Now I’m not naive or anything because when it comes to the hair being light and flowly which we know most of us blacks don’t have that’s another thing. If she wore nappy hair it probably wouldn’t be considered attractive but, for the most part I really don’t care. She doesn’t determine my happiness with myself I do.
this is to jj lets be real its more of the white thing to get all the plastic surgery done i mean come on this is just the world we live in so what if a black womens hair is blonde what about when all the punk kids dye their hair blue or blk? as a matter of fact who cares what color hair anybodys hair is by the way what is being white
I think bey is a realist to her fans and answers to no-one but her last hit and or accolade.
lets face it common people hate change but in the world of show biz longevity relies on your best reinvention of an already lucrative product. Change yourself because you mean the world to your fans. I guess it’s where you at and how you gon get it on that counts 4 your place in music/showbiz history. she’s as real as the stardom that surrounds her period. child still got her family and fan/worshippers keeping a balance I think she can rock.
black people are like gifted in away that is to this day untold. Influences outside your private life are taken on evidently by people hoping to get closer to the reality of yours and their own success [no- haters allowed]. when your cloud is too high only highness can bring you back down to earth. The media make a point of this and then it seems to be an attack . so be it. you know where your at. just a STAR.
I applaud her for doing her thing. So what if her hair isn’t dark, full of kinks and short like some people? She’s out there doing what she wants and she shouldn’t do something because someone thinks she’s “betraying her race.” First off, she represents a curvy/thick woman like few before have and she’s helped some people embrace REAL women. I mean if we don’t want her to represent our culture, then who the hell can? Besides we just need to accept that while our community has made strides to show that we are something to be embraced and our talent is unquestionable. Teach your kids to embrace themselves with open arms and not do it because Beyonce is. People need to stop reading into things so heavily and let the woman continue being the superstar she is. The community tried to do it with Whitney in the 90′s and now they are using Beyonce as their scapegoat. There are bigger issues at hand than this so let’s get to discussing those, eh?
Beyonce looks great as always. She can not be called a race traitor just because of her style of appearrances and preferrances of hair colors. I’m certain she’s a proud African-american woman. If she’s not, why married a black man? Why would she cancelled her trip just to go and tells people to be patience and make sure to vote for the president in 2008? Sing at the president inaugural ball? This journalist is very negative to me.
Uhmm , Really ? A Race Traitor ? This &| You Guys Have Become RIDICULOUS . I’ll Admit , Beyonce is kinda , sorta overrated . But You Can’t Blame The Woman . She wanted to try somethinq different . Who gives a dam?
this Irish writer sucks .. must go to hell.
Beyonce .. i believe in you, i like your style and songs so much. this writer has just got nothing to do but envy at others’ fortunes. bitter! :l
i don’t think that she is but i’m not gon say oh i love her music, so every thing is cool. its a bigger issue than how i feel about bey. two questions 1. do you sing a living legends song at the first inaugural ball for Barack Obama? 2. are their any dark singers in r&b?
Beyonce doesn’t allow herself to be lightened for ads she’s just yellow as Jay refers to her in some of his songs off Blueprint 3 she is light skinned and so she enjoys tanning as she mentioned in one interview and on a episode of Tyra Tyra asked her why she’s so dark she usually looks a lot lighter then her and Beyonce’s answer was “my makeup artist put bronzer all over my body backstage” so she’s not this dark female who’s dying to be white she is actually a light woman who tans and uses makeup to be darker
This is just ridiculous and unfair to both Beyonce and Michael Jackson.
As mentioned by someone else, what woman doesn’t do SOMETHING to enhance her appearance? Most women do & most are not walking around with their natural hair color. Including white women who are blond according to many hairdressers. As far as plastic surgery, to each his own. I would not do it but I pass no judgement on anyone who wishes to – it is their business and hardly makes them a traitor to their race necessarily.
Just seems like the author is looking for a reason to cause controversy and maybe was running low on writing ideas. It COULD be a valid argument if you had a case, but you don’t here.
As far as Michael Jackson. This makes me so sad and just wonder if there is any hope for humanity or fairness when it comes to this lovely man who is no longer with us. He suffered so much when he was alive & yes there were those in the Black community who felt he was a race traitor despite his telling the world he had vitiligo. How that must have hurt him. A devastating disease to anyone and even more so to the most famous and chased man on the planet, an entertainer that thrilled us and had no where to hide when this started happening to him early in his life. There is much evidence all over the internet of the patches on his hands, neck, ears and parts of his face that up until that point he was covering with dark makeup until he no longer could…it has become a matter of public record that you choose to ignore.
What did he have to do? Strip naked to satisfy the skeptics so that they could judge for themselves??? So sad, I guess he had to die for some people to BELIEVE him because finally it was confirmed by his autopsy report. The poor man also had lupus, both of these diseases are autoimmune afflictions that made him lose his pigmentation, made him very vulnerable to the sun, caused damage to his skin, pain, swelling and God knows what else.
My point is that it was no ones business what his afflictions were yet when he disclosed the vitiligo, many didn’t believe him. There is not a product out there that will would make him whiter than your average white person, essentially an albino. He was called weird & ridiculed because he used umbrellas & masks to protect his skin because exposure to the sun was very life threatening for him. He went from someone who LOVED the outdoors, swimming etc. to having to cover himself from head to toe. Lupus can be very damaging to the skin as well as well as cause fatigue, a lot of pain & swelling yet he soldiered on and continued with grace despite the cruelty of the press and judgment of some of the public.
He was and remained a proud Black man his entire life. His words, actions, charity AND his music are a testament to this. No matter the mud, hate, lack of compassion and betrayals, he was always graceful, charitable, a singular and unparalleled talent and above all, all about love.
Now you have this author perpetuating this false meme about him AND Beyonce.
Shame on you.
this guy should go to hell. Beyoncé is a human being and should be allowed to do what she wants.if she wants to rock blonde hair thn let her do it,I really don’t lyk how people always want celebrities to behave or look in a certain manner which theyy clearly did not choose because they dont want to. again why does Beyoncé have to look like a black girl, it does not make a difference, bottomline is she inspires a lot of people out there regardless of race. I strongly believe inspiration is better than representation. she is making this world a better place and bring people of all races together unlike the Irish singers this guy is referring to in the article, who the hell are they and what difference do they make in this world for representing white people!Again you are Irish and most definitely white and you are just trying to get attention by using an American singer..pls get a rope and hang yourself!we are people trying to move away from race issues and your white a$s is still stuck in the past. Lastly black people don’t need some white guy telling them they are not representing their race well, you dont know anythn to say the least!
