Jermaine Dupri Sees Frank Ocean As R&B Music Savior

Jermaine Dupri fell (very) short of calling Frank Ocean the savior of RnB music in a recent post he did on his official site Global 14 (too bad Ocean does not see himself as an R’n'B star).
The producer explained that he hopes that Mr. Ocean’s debut album “Channel Orange” sells at least 200,000 units in its first week for the following reasons.
-Music executives will pay more attention and promote R’n'B singers (R.Kelly’s “Write Me Back” was a solid piece that needed a better push).
-With Ocean having practically no screaming rappers talking about bling, hoes and cash – Dupri prays that singers will be free to simply put out R’n'B only songs.
Jermaine’s letter is just one of the many positive responses that the crooner has been receiving from his peers.

Yep he’s talking about artist like chris brown and trey songz. We do need better artist than those two
Dang J.D. can’t write!! I barely understood what he was saying!
I may be naively making this comment but….. I don’t see Frank Ocean as an R&B singer, not even as a singer really. Don’t get me wrong.. I think he’s creative.
In terms of R&B, I think it may have lost its identity in trying to conform to a different format. One can argue that the boundary lines between genres is becoming more an more blurred, but there is still definition there.
I think R&B will be fine if artists/managers/producers shift their focus from the record labels to he fans/supporters. Work the audience by doing shows and selling their music direct to the fans and just continue to build their fan base.
I have a lot of respect for J.D. but I think he may be approaching it wrong, (with the same model from the 90s) and that just does not seem to cut it for new R&B artists. Building a fan base and selling direct to the fans is the best route in my opinion.
R Kelly is probably my absolute most favorite singer. He could have done much better with write me back!
Just my thoughts.
