Keyshia Cole On Nicki Minaj Duet I Ain’t Thru Failing On The Charts
Keyshia Cole recently did an interview with The Associated Press to share some surprising details about her new CD “Calling All Hearts” that is out in stores today.
The new mother explained that releasing the Nicki Minaj- assisted first single called “I Ain’t Thru,” that failed on the charts was a terrible mistake.
The “Heaven Sent” singer went to add that she ignored her labels A&M and Geffen recommendation not to use the uptempo track. KC told AP:
“The label didn’t really want to drop the record because they knew … that people wanted a more intense, soulful record from me about love and I really should have followed [their] direction. But I wanted that to be a statement record. It’s like saying, ‘I’m doing me, you know. I don’t have no regrets for nothing that I’m doing.’”
The Californian songbird revealed that she wanted to stick with a more smooth RnB sound. She added:
“I just think that people expect me to be, you know, an artist that sings about just love. But I’m always growing as an artist and I have to feed my artistry.”
If “Calling All Hearts” fails we can already predict that Nicki Minaj will be the one taking some of the blame even if Cole wanted to collaborate with her.
