Mariah Carey “E=MC2″ Review

Mariah Carey’s new album “E=MC²” leaked earlier today.I was expecting something more consistent. It’s just average, not a song here that you will remember in five years.

I liked her previous album Emancipation of Mimi better, this album has just a few good songs.

this is the same album since “Charmbracelet”. the same formula almost the same producers except she keeps going to the new it producers for a track or two. why is “i stay in love” melodically the same loop played over and over and over again. at least when she was married to Mottola he made her sing and gave her some variety. cant wait for the “memoirs”

Like she said in 1999’s Heartbreaker “I just keep on coming back incessantly” she wasnt joking and returns yet again! this girl is definitely determined to remain an icon. The only thing with Mariah Carey is that she tries far too hard with sounding RnB more so than the actual RnB sound and therefore, thanks to the Success of We Belong Together, and all the artists that followed that same structure afterwards; Mary J Blige, Janet Jackson, Beyonce and Neyo, her sound became tiresome due to the original cla**ic that put her back on the map (WBT).
For someone with as much success as hers, no. 1’s, album sales etc, etc, she should be coming up with the goods, to gain the same recognition in the UK as she does in the US, she does deserve it. She needs to recreate the same nostalgia wrapped up in a modern sound which hooks her audience and leaves them wanting more, like TEOM did in 2005. While E=MC2 is relatively good, considering the artist, it fails to live up to it’s predecessor. The Key songs here are clearly Touch My Body as it showcases her range without her over singing, Cruise Control & I’ll Be Loving You Long Time for the Mariah sound, Cruise Control would not have sounded out of place on the Rainbow album and could have easily lived up to her cla**ics while I’ll Loving You Long Time sounds like her take on Beyonce’s Crazy In Love, yet have a repetitive over lapping harmony which she has cleverly demonstrated on songs such as Fantasy, Honey, Heartbreaker and Don’t Forget About Us, Also Thanx 4 Nothin’ and For The Record contain that fresh sound, yet seem somewhat forgetful as there is nothing there that sets them apart from the other songs we have been given. On the plus side, her ba** notes have been made good use of for the verses in Thanx 4 Nothin’ which then become what appears to be her belting? maybe? if so then that is all she gives us. If Mariah wants Memoirs to be a succes then she needs to combine the emotion felt in this album with the vocal gymnastics of The Emancipation of Mimi, without trying to recreate something that has already been done.
