R. Kelly Already Taken vs Trey Songz Already Taken – Just when you thought the new R. Kelly/Trey Songz drama was over, this happens. A demo featuring none other than R. Kelly for Trey Songz’s new song called “Already Taken” has surfaced.
“Already Taken,” which is on the Step Up 3D Movie Soundtrack was originally done by Kelly one year ago but he passed on the record to Polow Da Don who later sold it to Trey.
These two are forever dissing each other publicly so it a bit surprising that they recorded the same song.
Trey is forever being compared to Kelz (even though they are nothing alike one is a legend who wrote for Celine Dion, MJ, Luther Vandross and Janet Jackson while the other is a beginner on the music scene), here is your opportunity to actually judge them on the same song (both versions are posted above).

I have to go with Trey on his version. There’s a reason why R Kelly sold this song. It wasn’t that strong lyrically by his standards I think. As a drummer I enjoy Trey’s production much better. The tempo is more driving and danceable. I like how Trey cut the verses and made them solid so that they work better with the chorus of “I’m Already Taken”. Songz hit a home-run with this one.

@noblagada you hit it. Kellz wasn’t mastered and recorded as a DEMO. That’s what makes R. Kelly who he is. He can sign a song that people will say is not his “style” but someone else will still want to record it. The same thing happened when Brutha recorded “One Day on this Earth.” Kellz did two diffrent versions and passed it along to them.
Those that are saying that Treyz “sounds” better – its because R Kelly’s is not mastered, of course the beat will sound cleaner.
What you need to do is compare the lyrics. The bridges and Chorus are the same (as written by the producer i think) but the verses are different. R kelly’s lyrics are far more advanced and meaningful, and not a desperate attempt to rhyme and make things corny.

I wouldn’t say that you’re talking b.s but I disagree with your opinion. Trey’s version “sounds” better because he got rid of the elements of what was weak about the song (etc. the verses) wrote completely new ones and created a banging chorus on top of an infectious beat. The mastering process comes after you make your song as hot as you can make it. He did the same with “Say Ahh” and killed em dead with it. The verses are totally different. Trey has a much stronger hook that solidifies the song. There is no “I’m Already Taken” lyrical line in R.Kellys version. That’s the selling point of the whole song.

When I first heard Trey Songz version I could have sworn it was Kels’, I think they both did a great job but I’m gonna have to give it to R. Kelley. Singers his age that have been around the same length of time (by the way both of them have even been more successful in terms of present day album sales/downloads. Each has had at least 1 album or single go platinum). Trey hasn’t even done that after a 5 year career. I think he tries too hard and should’ve stuck to his own style like he did with Just Gotta Make It.

It’s obvious that Trey is a “Better Singer” and has better range and vocals, but of course without a doubt R. Kelly is the better artist and has contributed a more 3 dimensional background to the game. Do I feel that Trey Songz can overcome R Kelly? Put it like this…Trey has alot of years to prove that he is the better artist overall, but for the moment, he’s not even close…PERIOD!!!!

There really isnt any comparing the two. When you can produce, write and sing your own songs and songs for others for 20 years straight and still be on top, there are very few people you can compare yourself to. We are comparing a song R Kelly wrote but someone else happen to come across and make a hit out of it, it still doesnt take away from the fact that R Kelly wrote the song! What are we comparing here? A song was written by R Kelly, whether trey, chris brown or even justin timberlake sings it. Theres no comparison and I do agree with what was said, alot of these comments were left by kids still in highschool who dont know the success of R Kelly and are just looking at a tight song, cute face and nice voice. Trey has used R Kellys style which is okay, like Chris Brown used MJ’s but difference is Chris is more humble to admit it, and trey is too into himself to.

I like both artist, but I feel that this is more of a Trey Songz kinda song. And just like some of the people say, R. Kelly passed it on because he knew this wasn’t the right song for him
