Rihanna Rated R Best Pop Album Of 2009 (Entertainment Weekly) – Rihanna’s album may have flopped (sales wise) but Entertainment Weekly is giving her some huge props.In their Best Of issue the mag has announced that the singer’s recently released CD called “Rated R” the “Best Pop Album of 2009″.Entertainment Weekly had the following to say about the album:
Best Pop Album: Rihanna – Rated R – Well, color us corrected. When we first heard Rated R (via a record-label listening session, as with several other releases on this list), we gave it a B. Since then, the insidious pleasures of the Barbadian superstar’s dark, defiantly uncommercial fourth album have sucked us in entirely. From bursts of spiky aggression (Hard) and ragga-tinged rapture (Rude Boy) to moments of pure, naked vulnerability (the Justin Timberlake-penned heartbreak symphony Cold Case Love), it’s emerged a stealth stunner.

Just curious, but since this site is called r&b music blog, and 200% r&b, why so many posts about Rihanna? She’s definitely pop and not r&b. Just wanted to see your point of view.
Personally think her new album was awful
I love Rihanna’s CD. I kept it rotating for over a week straight before i listened to anything else. It is an interesting infusion of rock and pop with some Caribbean influences! I like that every CD she has put out so far has shown a totally different side of her without making her seem like she’s taking on a fake persona. I don’t know if it’s the best pop album of 2009 considering the bigger impact (and more success) of pop artists like Lady Gaga and the Black Eyed Peas for example… but it was definitely among my favorite CDs of this year.
Just a little confused… if a album flopps sales wise, how is that consider Best Pop Album of the year, just asking? It has slipped so far down on the charts, it didn’t even stay in the top charts long at all. Are we being fair here and not giving her all of these great reviews because of the incident that happened almost over a year ago, just asking?

Dan I need you & all the haters to check your facts. An album can’t flop if its platinum and has singles that still on the billboard charts! International charts @ that! Rihanna would never flop if she keeps banging out hits!
easy just because something is great dont mean people are gonna run out to get it. and gliter can shine like diamonds. which means just cause its selling dont mean its good.

I think its a bit disappointing to hear people say bc its not selling its not a great album. While best pop album of 2009 might be a stretch, the album is really good and shows a lot of depth for Rihanna. She has Photographs, Stupid in Love, Firebomb & Rude Boy any of which are hits and could be used as her next single if her team plays it right. I think there are plenty CDs out there that I myself and other people on this blog have not heard that are probably great albums so sales should not be the basis on which to determine if an album is good or not. Jay-zs Reasonable Doubt is one of the best hip hop albums ever and a recognized cla**ic which at the time probably sold about 50,000 copies the first week lol so let’s judge the music
im confused if her album “flopped” then how come sales show that it has sold over 1.1mil copies worldwide in less then a month

i’m a ri ri fan…i love this cd got ma girls to love it…its not the greatest but out of all her cds i favor this one because its different and i like different..feeling the whole rock/pop thing..
What are they talking about? RIHANNA ALBUM IS NOWHERE NEAR FLOPPING,like someone mentioned before me,her sales already stand at 1.5 million and the album is hot,im actually still addicted to it…get the facts straight.

I dont believe its bases on sales but Rated R is a great album its platinum so it did not flop its just aint meet the expectations of Good Girl Gone Bad I love RiRi for doing something different
